Visit Keokuk, Nauvoo and the other delights of the Tri-state area

TIL, after the LDS church vacated Nauvoo for Utah, the land was sold to a French utopian socialist community, the Icarians. The Icarians lasted there about a decade, but also founded a few other locations. The die-hards consolidated in Iowa where the community’s near 50-year run “made the Corning Icarian Colony one of the longest-lived non-religious communal living experiments in US history.”
