Tijuana Bibles

Tijuana Bibles “were palm-sized pornographic comic books produced in the United States from the 1920s to the early 1960s.” As you can see, many feature parodies of comic strips or celebrities. I guess I can understand Blondie and Irene Dunne, but I’m a little concerned about the desire for pornographic stories involving Joe Palooka and Eugene the Jeep. Then again… Rule 34.

Incidentally, Tijuana is often casually pronounced ‘Tiawanna’ by Americans living far from the border (or close even). And the river and town were even spelled “Tia Juana” in American maps of long ago. But I am enough of a grammar, spelling, and language Nazi to point out that Tijuana should be pronounced something more like ‘Tihwanna’.
