It’s a nautical themed Ouija board. What a crazy thing. Crazier still, it may be connected to Jeraldine Saunders, creator of Love Boat (and other nautical things). Certainly, it’s connected enough that this item was at her estate sale. Vander Molen Estate Sales said of it: “Jeraldine Saunders own rendition of a nautical ouija board.”
Could it be true? The dingus is marked Glendale, and that’s also where the estate sale is. But I can find precious little else about the Mantic Message Mat, apart from a happy owner/user of a couple of them, who also wonders who made it, but has a few hints to offer:
The story, as it was told to us by his grandmother (from whom we obtained the board) is that a friend of hers designed it and wanted to make a test batch to be able to give a few to her peers and see how they performed. Apparently this woman had a friend in the printing business who ran a special lot for her of around 30 boards. Hubby and I are in possession of 2 of them, and we do not know where any of the remaining boards are at this time
Possibly, the spirits (or rather me, Vander Molen, and Google) have answered the question for them.
