Thanks to the labor unions, Americans (and Canadians, who also get a bonus ‘u’) get a day off. One of the possible early promoters of the idea was the Noble and Holy Order of the Knights of Labor. With a name like that, sign me up.
Not sure this item best describes Labor Day, but I tried. Clearly a WWII era poster image, encouraging women to labor in the factories, while the gents went to war.
