Gilmore Stadium is a great bit of LA history (as was nearby Gilmore Field). It operated in the 30s and 40s not far from the Original Farmers Market on what is now the CBS lot. Many different sports and events were held here, but this program touts the midget car races. The Gilmores were local oil/gas tycoons; one of their stunts was they had an actual lion (named Gilmore, or course) that flew in an airplane as a cub as a promotion. There’s a historic Gilmore gas station at the Farmers Market as well. Er, don’t get me started on LA history.
