Fractals in my pocket

OK, this inaugurates a new tag that is sort of a sequel to the want tag: bought! Found this at an estate sale walking distance from the house. This has a nostalgic hold on me, since this was one of the first in-depth books on fractals, and I can remember reading it in college when fractals were first becoming a thing. The Beauty of Fractals “is lavishly illustrated and as a mathematics book became an unusual success.” In addition to the lovely photographs of computer images created by massive supercomputers that could perform thousands, possibly millions of computations per second — again quoting Wikipedia “Dedicated software had to be developed to make the necessary computations which at that time took hours of computer time to create a single image” — the book provides some of the underlying mathematics and programming used to create them. Picked up for $2 (along with Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue for another $2). ABAA has the cheapest version listed at $10. I’ve quintupled my money!
