While it probably isn’t what these odd beauties were meant to invoke, all I can see in these female heads perched on hair? necks? are a strange variety of Japanese demon, collectively known as yokai. There are some specific types that involve women’s heads that fly about on their own or at the end of a grotesquely elongated neck. They go about sucking blood and carrying out other antisocial activities; or possibly they sit there quietly on your mantelpiece, biding their time.
