For the record, it is actually the aborbable California quail (Callipepla californica). But for a time in the late 1980s the Mediterranean fruit fly was a problem hereabouts. TIL a shadowy group took credit for intentionally releasing medflies in an attempt to persuade the state to stop using malathion.
