The F-100 was the first US jet fighter capable of supersonic flight (at level elevation). It operated from 1954-1970, seeing action in Vietnam among other places. North American Aviation was headquartered in the Los Angeles area, so that may explain why this commemorative pin is still in the area. After a series of consolidations, the business is now part of Boeing.
